Corporate Volunteering FAQs

We have no minimum group size, and maximum depends on the day and activity. Primarily groups partake in one of two activities – Pick/Pack or Food Rescue. The timing of the shift is 9am – 2pm (i.e. 5 hours in length). During Quarter 4 there is also a third option of Christmas Hamper Packing (which has an earlier start of 8:30am). The three roles are detailed further below. Please be aware we have a minimum age requirement of 15.

  • 1. Pick Packing (Mon–Wed) Help pack food orders on the warehouse floor. Volunteers collect items from shelves and pack them onto pallets for delivery to schools and community partners.
  • 2. Food Rescue (Wed–Fri) Support by labelling and packaging donated groceries that would otherwise go to waste. This includes bagging fresh produce into portions or re-labelling items so they can be distributed to families in need.
  • 3. Hamper Packing (Quarter 4, weekdays) Join a production line to build, label, and fill boxes with food items, then seal and palletise them. Some volunteers assist by opening boxes and clearing rubbish to keep the line moving. The goal is 750 hampers per day (8:30am–1:30pm, or until the target is met).
  • Foodbank NSW & ACT does not charge for corporate volunteering as we believe you are providing a vital service and making a meaningful difference. If you were looking to make a further contribution to our cause, we gratefully welcome donations of food or funds along with your volunteering day. Info about Food Drives can be found here should you be interested.

All volunteering takes place at our western Sydney warehouse in Glendenning (50 Owen St, Glendenning NSW, 2761) – – i.e. near Mount Druitt, Blacktown, and Doonside.

  • 1. Date and shift is requested via links (current links are below and are initially sent out each quarter when we release the calendar – the next set of links are usually sent about 6 weeks before the next quarter begins)
  • 1a. Please only lock in the number of participant slots you are confident of filling, as this helps us ensure full shift coverage. Requesting 30 slots and turning up with 20 significantly impacts our ability to meet the need of the community.
  • 2. Organiser/booker will receive an email acknowledgement of the shift request
  • 3. Upon final approval of the request by FBNA, the organiser/booker will receive an official email confirmation of shift, and also a link that they need to pass along to all their team members so they can individually register for the shift and be attached to your group booking. (The booker will also need to register themselves via the link too if they are coming along – the confirmation mentioned is just about locking in a date/shift – it’s not about the individuals attending)
  • 4. Individuals register from the link they have received from the organiser/booker and will receive a confirmation and WHS Safety flyer that must be read before attending on the day.
  • 4a. Foodbank asks that all individuals share any challenges with the organiser/booker who would then talk directly with Foodbank – this ensures that Foodbank is dealing with one organisation contact versus 22 (or whatever number your group happens to be)
  • 5. Attendees arrive 10mins before the official start time to ensure a prompt and on-time start for the group.
  • 6. Attendees have a great day and leave with the knowledge of the difference that they have made for the community.
  • As the duration of the shift is short (5 hours) there is no official lunch break – although we do have a morning tea option at 11am (approx. 15-20 mins) – there is a mobile canteen/coffee van that comes along, as well as the café directly across the road – – and yes they do catering options… (@RustyEspresso and @hawkesburyhillscatering ).

We do have a breakroom that has a fridge, microwave and toaster should your team want to use our facilities. As for potential lunch options afterwards, there are a couple of great options nearby.

  • The Marsden Brewhouse
  • Alroy Tavern
  • Lone Pine Tavern
  • The upcoming quarter booking link can be found here

    Please note:

    • The number of participant slots we have stated is the max capacity we can take – it becomes a hazard from a safety perspective if we exceed it.
    • Those slot numbers represent individuals and not groups. i.e. you see the number 5 – it means 5 participant slots are left. If the date you want is taken you can ask to be put on a waitlist for that specific date, (or date range) and you will be reached out to, should slots become available.
    • Please email volunteer@foodbanknsw.org.au to be placed on the waitlist and be sure to include your parameters for a booking. i.e. min/max # of slots you would like, a specific date or range of dates, if they want a specific role or day of the week, and how much turnaround time they need to accept the option (usually 2-3 weeks).
    • It’s vitally important that groups understand the process of booking to ensure you don’t inadvertently break our

terms & conditions– which may impact you making bookings in the future. i.e. sharing the calendar links with your team and then they make multiple bookings of 1 versus a group booking becomes labour and admin intense and also breaks the “one booking per organisation” rule.
